Task #10

We have had several chances to look at the new website. I have been letting patrons know that we will be switching in Jan. Most people agree that the most irritating part of the current site are the drop downs that jump down when you don't want them. I like the new layout much better. It is also nice to have the log on for your card at the top instead of having to look for it.

#9 Universal Class

I didn't sign up for a class but I did look over the amazing course offerings. I think this may be an excellent spot to point out to our home school patrons. There numerous courses that could fill in gaps for them as well as a number of "fun" courses that would be great for "electives".

Spanish Lib Guide Task 8

We weren't able to go to the staff training on Thursday but I had seen and used the lib guide so I walked one staff member through the quiz and translation, then had her pass her knowledge on to another staff member, then that staff member trained another. In the end we all got hands on experience and a good sense of what's in the guide. I like the quiz idea as it makes one really search to find the correct info.

Task #7

Dropbox has apps for other devices-gets my vote for that reason alone.

Extra Credit -google a day

I tried a couple of different ways to find the answer to the Paul Revere question...won't tell the answer but it is a bit over one hour. Google maps was the most help. I liked this task-kind of like a treasure hunt. I would like my name put in for the e-reader.

Task #5

I have recommended the Chilton's data base to many patrons since Clifton doesn't have any hard copies. Most people are happy with what they find. I looked up my vehicle and found out that there was a recall for loose dashboard clips. I am going to get my irritating creaking dashboard fixed for free! The data base was very easy to use.

Task #4

I reviewed a few e-readers including Sony Reader, the Nook and the Apple I pad. I didn't bother with the Kindle because I would want to use the device to download free library books so for now the Kindle is out. I liked the size of the Sony Reader and think that would be the one I would pick.

Steps to downloading

1. Download OverDrive
2. Log on to Marmot Library Network
3. Find a book , go to checkout, enter card #, confirm checkout and download.

Task #3

The title of the Consumer Report article is "Best Phones and Plans", January 2011.

One article from the first page of results from the Rolling Stone magazine was "Michael Jackson: the Making of the 'King'.

I would like my ticket to go for the Sony Reader.

2011 Task 1&2

Blair and I got 100% the scavenger hunt. I was surprised by how easy most of the answers were to find by using the search button for the site. This must have been something someone has been working on because when I used it quite some time ago it didn't come up with the answers I needed. Nice job!

I would like to be entered in the e-reader drawing.
