Novelist is awesome. We have been using it for years and they keep improving it. I love the series search because we are always getting patrons who want to know what comes next. I usually select the list and print it for them...they love it. I also like Recommended Reads when looking for suggestions for patrons.
9/15- Just found another great use for Novelist. I am trying to think of a good display for this month in the teen section. I clicked on Recommended Reads in the teen section and came up with a terrific list of non-fiction adventure books that I will be using for my display. My job just got simpler!!!

Task # 11
The Book Report Network website has enough to keep you busy for a day! My favorite was the new releases in the teen reads section. I found several new items to request.
The biography database didn't have my first pick, Nevada Barr, so I tried Robin Cook. He has worked as a physician, eye surgeon, and assisted Jacque Cousteau.

Task # 10
I have been showing patrons our online databases more and more frequently. Ebsco has been valuable in finding information on obscure research topics for students who have a warped teacher who appears to delight in trying to stump us! So far we have been successful in finding such tidbits as what Egyptian Vultures eat(you don't want to know). The tutorial was a good refresher!
I looked up my microwave in Consumer Reports and was happy to note that it is rated as one of the best. I did find out that the added convection feature that I thought would be a bonus is not all it is cracked up to be. My husband won that one...

#9 Task
This one was lots of fun. I've started a new website for our family cookbook. This is a task that I started last year with limited success. The problem was accessing the data base. Now all we will have to do is get on the website and add new material as needed. I'm amazed at the ease in doing a job that I was assigned to do several years ago for a class. I nearly went nuts trying to build my own website...progress!!!
# 8 Task
After getting totally confused trying to figure out how to navigate this website, I found myself back somehow to searching with google etc. I did discover that none of my sons' bands were on the website. I did find a picture of a now defunct group that my youngest was in. I think this would be quite valuable for students who are looking for materials to use in research that they know is not violating copyright. I agree, our laws are incredibly difficult to interpret!
